However, after breaking away from her band “Blue Angel,” her first album, “She’s So Unusual,” put her on the map of entertainment industry success. She went on to take home a Grammy award in 1985. In the next decade, however, her career slackened. She later resurfaced with an album in 2010. The record marked her foray in blues music. She is currently active as an advocate for AIDS research and LGBT rights.
