The Fall of the Legend: Debbie Reynolds Died A Day After Her Daughter Carrie Fisher

Save the best for last? Or shall we say save the worst for last? Because it seems the year 2016 wanted to leave a horrible mark in our chest before it makes its grand exit just a few days from now. The latest conquest dominating this year is the death bandwagon. First, it was George Michael, then Carrie Fisher, and now, Debbie Reynolds followed them as well.


What’s worse was that Debbie followed her daughter’s death just a day after. The fans have not yet recovered from Fisher’s death and today, another painful blow was inflicted in their hearts. We had no doubt this was the most tragic chapter in the Fisher’s family. We just cannot fathom the pain and agony the family must’ve felt for losing two precious women in their lives consecutively.

Let us take this precious time to reminisce Debbie Reynold’s contribution to the showbiz industry and how she warmed our hearts with her outstanding performances.

 Debbie Reynolds Surging Career

Debbie was an American actress, songwriter, and businesswoman. She first started her career when she portrayed Helen Kane in the Three Little Words film. Her debut role earned her a nomination Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer. Her success had instantly paved her the way to land another promising role that opened a path for her to fame and limelight.

In 1952, at the age of 19, she was offered to portray the role of Kathy Selden in the film Singin’ in the Rain. Ever since her notable portrayal, she also appeared in several films like The Affairs of Dobie Gillis (1953), Susan Slept Here (1954), Bundle of Joy, The Catered Affair and Tammy and the Bachelor (1957), Her singing performance of Tammy had also reached number one on Billboard’s music chart. And seeing as she definitely had a talent in singing too, she released her first pop album entitled after her name.

 Debbie’s Career as a Businesswoman

With everything going with flying colors in her career, Debbie wasn’t contented with only dwelling in one venture. We all know her as a strong and fierce woman. And she demonstrated how fierce she was by starting a business venture. She operated her first hotel in Las Vegas which clicked to the customers. Making her hotel one of the most prestigious and luxurious ones in Las Vegas. Aside from that, she was a collector of film memorabilia. She even purchased landmark from 1970 MGM auction.

You might think that all Debbie cares are just creating more profits on her hand, but it’s actually not. She also deeply cares for the good and helps other people to better their lives. In fact, she was the president of the charity organization called The Thalians. For those who didn’t know, it is an organization that dedicated to promoting awareness about mental illness as well as it causes.

 Debbie Reynold’s Closeness to Her Daughter

It is all known that Debbie is incredibly close to her daughter, Carrie Fisher. In fact, just this year the two women created a documentary life entitled Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds. It tackles about the ups and downs they experienced as mother and daughter throughout their lives. The documentary is set to show in HBO this year 2017. Not only that but Debbie was also incredibly attached to her granddaughter, Billie Lourd. These three generations of women had an inseparable bond. That’s why it was such a heartbreak when the tragic death of the first two women erupted.

 Debbie Reynold’s Sudden Death

Last December 28, 2016, Debbie Reynolds was taking care of the funeral of her late daughter, Carrie Fisher when she had a heart attack. She was rushed to the hospital because of this medical emergency with her son Todd Fisher. Later on, the latter son told the media that his mother suffered from “severe stroke”. Late in that afternoon, she died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles.

Suffice to say, this has been a very dark and tragic year for the Fisher family. Especially to her granddaughter, Billie Lourd who was incredibly close to the two. We just couldn’t imagine the grieve, pain, and loneliness she must’ve felt by their sudden death. Once again, the world is with the Fisher’s family. We will forever remember their contributions in the industry.
