Harry Potter is a worldwide phenomenon, and, basically, no one who finds it boring. Even after this book was screened, it is still amazingly interesting to millions of people around the world. Even if you are a big fan of Harry Potter, there are many things you don’t know about this amazing saga.

J.K.Rowling and Harry Potter have the same birthday

Both of them are born on July 31. This isn’t the only thing that J.K.Rowling shares with her characters—she said that Hermione was like her younger self and that her pet is an otter, which is actually Hermione’s Patronus. Furthermore, Rowling likes sherbet lemons, as well as Dumbledore.

Rowling created a sketch of Deathly Hallows

She admitted that she wrote a sketch for what she thought the final chapter would be. For instance, she always knew that Hagrid will carry Harry out of the forest and that he would be supposedly dead, but yet alive. She thought that this picture is so powerful and perfect, because Hagrid initially brought him to the magical world, and he would be bringing him back, too.

Dementors present Rowling’s struggle with depression

Rowling’s mother died in 1990, after which she suffered a period of severe depression. She uses her experience to describe Harry Potter’s Dementors, creatures that feed on human’s fears. Rowling says that depression is far different from sadness – and that is how dementors are like. “..that cold absence of feeling – that really hollowed –out feeling. That’s what Dementors are.”

Names of wizard plants are real

Rowling says that she actually collected names of plants that sounded witchy! She found flaxseed, fleawort, toadflax, Goutwort, knotgrass, gromwell, and Mugwort. She used the book Culpeper’s Complete Herbal, which was written in the 17^th century by English herbalist Nicholas Culpeper.

Rowling helped Alan Rickman to understand Snape’s feelings

She explained that Snape had been in love with Lily, that he hated James, and how he projected this feeling on Harry. This helped the actor to understand his character better.

Harry and Hermione

In an interview with Emma Watson, Rowling stated that she wrote the Ron-Hermione relationship just because she imagined it in the beginning. And although there is “too much fundamental incompatibility,” she still decided to proceed with it. She also added that Harry and Hermione are a better and quite stronger fit than Ron and Hermione. That is why she wrote that scene of Harry and Hermione in the tent.

Muggles can’t make potions

The reason behind this is because they don’t have wands. They can just add ingredients and create – nothing. Rowling said that many of components of the various libations and draughts that Harry creates actually exist – or were once believed to exist.

There was a time Rowling almost killed Ron, because of the issues in her private life – she was just being mean at times. Still, as she admitted, she just couldn’t go through with it, because she was well aware that it would happen only “out of sheer spite.”

Rowling said books are written because of her mother’s death

She stated that the Harry Potter books might not have come to completion if her mother hadn’t died. “The books are what they are because she died…because I loved her and she died.” It was a great daughter’s love and sadness for the loss which resulted in this amazing books. She committed herself to writing just not to think about her great loss, and it helped.
