How to Stop Being Negative and Find Bliss
In today’s world, it is easy to fall prey to negative thinking. Negative thoughts can only bring you pain, which is something you have probably experienced many times throughout your life. Every time something bad happens, the negative thoughts drain you of energy and prevent you from being in the present moment and thus enjoying it. The more you care about your negative thoughts, the stronger they become. That is something like a small snowball rolling from the hill, and as it rolls, it becomes bigger and faster. Just one little negative thought can turn into a huge, speeding ball of ugliness. On the other hand, a small positive thought can have the same effect but bringing a beautiful outcome instead.
In most situations, when we start having negative thoughts, it’s hard to stop them. Shifting your focus to positive thoughts is much easier said than done. Still, this is the only way, if you don’t want to go down a painful path.
Here are some things you can do to make yourself overcome your negative thoughts.
Do some yoga or meditation
These things can take your focus away from your current thoughts and bring your attention to your own breathing. Yoga is very relaxing and helps to ease your mind and makes you stay present to your current experience. So, instead of jumping to what could happen, it brings you back to the here-and-now moment —the only moment that really matters.
Smile as much as possible
With years, many people forget to smile. They generally don’t do much smiling during the weekend, so they gradually forget how it actually works. Smiling is essential for your well-being. It really does help you change your mood and relieves stress. While smiling, you also feel lighter because it takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown. Did you know this? Now, we are suggesting that you literally bring yourself in front of a mirror and force yourself to smile. Do it, and you will thank us later!
Avoid negative people
Is there really a need to elaborate on this one? At times when you’re being negative, you should talk to people who can put things into a positive perspective and won’t feed your negative thinking. Instead of thinking that you are going to have a hard time with something, think about facing the challenges and coming up with the constructive solutions, becoming stronger.
You probably realize that no one is perfect, so you should avoid all those people emanating negativity. You could dwell on your mistakes on your own and you don’t need any additional negativity around you. You would be sorry later on for wasting your time over the unimportant things when you could live your life to the fullest.
You should learn from your mistakes and move forward, don’t dwell on them for too long, nor let other people do that for you.
Be responsible, don’t play a victim
Even when your living situation becomes unbearable, there is always (at least one) way out. On these occasions, to get your thoughts straight, you should take the focus away from you and do something nice for other people, or one person at least. There is no better feeling than knowing that you have helped a person in need.
Sing as much as possible
You don’t have to know all the lyrics since this is probably the reason why many people don’t enjoy singing. Just mumble something in the melody of your favorite song. Every time you do this, you will feel better. Generally, when we sing, we express our feelings, and this is an unbelievable stress relief.
Think about the things you are grateful for
When people are grateful, we know they appreciate what we have done for them. The same goes vice versa – when they do something for us, they hope that we are grateful appreciating their actions towards our well-being. So, the next time someone helps you with something, find a way to show them the appreciation.
Read motivational and positive quotes
If you don’t have a notebook with your positive quotes gathered over the years from many different wise people, then you should search through some of the online quotation sources. There are many such sites, but probably the most visited ones are BrainyQuote and Goodreads.
