This Just Might Be the Perfect Destination After the Quarantine—Plus: Things to Do While You’re There

We might not be able to go on vacation for now due to the pandemic, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t plan one. Your summer holiday plans have likely been thrown out of the window, so why not get the itinerary planning going for a trip to a winter destination?

If you’re into skiing or just want to enjoy the mountainside, then Sun Peaks Resort may just be the perfect place. A 5 and a half-hour drive north of Seattle takes you to the British Columbia wilderness within the 2nd-largest ski area in Canada. The resort encompasses 4,270 acres and three mountains. It’s quite massive that even locals still discover new turns and sites when they hit the ski site.

If you want to enjoy nature without that many people around, then you’ll like the more low-key vibe of the place compared to other resorts in the neighborhood. Sun Peaks has minimal lines and a slower pace. You also won’t need a car to get around.

A 3-day holiday to this beautiful destination will not just involve skiing, O other activities and must-visits would complete the whole experience too. Here are some of them:

It’s recommended to stay for at least three days in the resort for you to enjoy different attractions and activities.

Breakfast at Bolacco Cafe

Start your morning with a nice breakfast—or brunch for some—over at Bolacco Cafe. Try out their homemade specialties such as berry scones together with a cup of gourmet coffee. Its decor of skis, books, and various license plates just add to the quirkiness and coziness of the cafe.

Go to All Three Mountains

Sun Peaks boasts three mountains—Mt. Morrisey, Sundance Mountain, and Todd Mountain. If you want to go to Mt. Morrisey, though, do it in the afternoon as the sun hits the area at noon.

You can also visit summits. There, you’ll find the beginner slope and some Instagram-worthy scenes for an impromptu photoshoot. More advanced skiers can take on Gil’s Area and the 5 Mile.

Get Cinnamon Buns from Sunburst Bar + Bakery

At Sun Peaks, you can hit the slopes early in the morning and be one of the few who can enjoy the fresh mountain powder and the still-pristine grooming of the area. A few hours of morning skiing calls for a delicious breakfast. The good thing is that there is the Sunburst Bar + Bakery in the mid-mountain. Their cinnamon buns remain to be a popular treat for decades.

Take Advantage of the Après Ski Scene

There are several spots where you can relax and socialize after a skiing session. If you want to keep warm by the firepit, Morrisey’s Public House is the way to go. Other food destinations include Bottom’s Bar & Grill, which is dubbed as the local’s living room, and Voyageur Bistro for an authentic Canadian food trip.

Enjoy a Sunset Fondue Dinner

Take the Sunburst Express chairlift to drop you off at the Alpine Fondue & Starlight Descent. There, you’ll be given a 3-course fondue meal with a Swedish band to entertain you with Swiss folk music. After dinner, marvel at the starlit night in Alpine and ski down to the village through the 5 Mile.
