Here’s Why Chris Hemsworth Felt Like Santa Claus when He Played Thor in ‘Avengers: Endgame’

“Avengers: Endgame” generally got rave reviews because the three-hour picture left the audience on the edge of their seats. (Read at your own discretion, spoilers will follow.) Although it may have left us with a heavy heart as some of the beloved characters exited the franchise without the possibility of ever coming back again, we couldn’t also forget that we got good laughs thanks to Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth.

Aftermath of Thanos’ Move

The picture surely is an action-packed one but it didn’t lack the comedic value, most of which were brought by the God of Thunder himself. In “Endgame,” the superheroes were left shattered as Thanos successfully wiped out almost the entire race of human beings, including their other colleagues such as Spider-Man and Doctor Strange.

Each of the survivors grappled with the truth on their own: Iron Man decided to settle down and start a family as he gave up on reversing what happened.

Hawkeye became Ronin after his family went missing at the snap of Thanos. Hulk, meanwhile, had a different take on grief as he embraces his intelligence, becoming a professor. Well, as for Thor, the aftermath took a toll on his body – he let himself go. The typical muscular, toned, and fit superhero was amiss in the film, instead, what we did see was a beer-drinking man with a messy bushy beard and a huge belly.

It might have been a pain for his fans to see him in his depressive state but it’s obvious what happened: Thor ate his emotions away. But don’t be fooled, unlike other stars who gain or lose weight for a role, the 35-year-old’s body was only a suit. Chris wasn’t shy about the new look of his character either, in fact, he sees the experience as fun.

It wasn’t only Chris that enjoyed his new bod, even those surrounding him found it awesome, too. Robert Downey Jr., who played Iron Man in all Marvel films, would give him belly rubs, which the Australian star likened when his pregnant wife would get the same treatment in the grocery. Apparently, he felt like a Santa Claus because everyone wanted to bear hug him.

Makeup and Hair

When the group finally had hope that they may bring other colleagues back and stop Thanos from using the Infinity Gauntlet, there wasn’t any transformation that happened to Thor – he remained that way for the rest of the film. This means that Chris had to sit at the make-up chair longer than the usual. He revealed that it had him tied in the seat for three hours just for the make-up and hair.

But don’t get started with the prosthetic suit. Chris said the silicone weighed 90 pounds, which, as you would imagine, was very tiresome to carry. Ironically, he might have lost weight when he carried all the silicone around despite his character looking plump.
