Fauxmances of Hollywood Coming to TV
We all have a blast when famous people start a relationship. We are curious about how they will get along. Will they appear together on events? And of course, are they together for real? A new television show named The Arrangement hits that note just perfectly.
Everybody likes to gossip, and there’s no better material than the celebrity couples. E! recognized this and made a brand new, original drama series about a television actress who signs a contract to marry a movie star. The funny thing though is that the show’s cast and crew are very insistent on the fact that this show is no way- no how connected to the Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes marriage. However, we will let you decide on your own if it is, or isn’t. Just read the official synopsis:
” The drama features young actress Megan Morrison auditioning to play the female lead in a high profile film opposite action star Kyle West. She meets the leader of the self-help organization the Institute of the Higher Mind, and is presented with a contract that will change her life.”
When you look at this, the old rumors about the Church of Scientology auditioning actresses for the “role” of Tom Cruise’s girlfriend come to mind. Many people are already sure that this show is very much inspired by the relationship between Cruise and Holmes. We just think it is an exciting drama about all those Hollywood romances that seemed suspiciously short, fake or had too many benefits for a happy couple.
Old fauxmances
Fauxmances date all the way back to the early 20th century. Back then, they were there to conceal actor’s personal orientation. In 1955, actor Rock Hudson married his secretary Phylis Gates in an attempt to hide his personal orientation from the public.
Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy were a convincing pair, until 2012, when a Hollywood fixer Scotty Bowers published a memoir in which he claimed that their 26-year long relationship was a decoy. Allegedly, their great love was just a cover for the fact that both actors enjoyed gay relationships.
Today, Hollywood is a lot friendlier to openly gay actors. However, arranged relationships are still a thing. Why? Well, a reason for fauxmance might be the fact that the “couple” wants to promote a project they are working on, or promote themselves.
New fauxmances
Kaley Cuoco and Henry Cavill had a 12-day romance in 2013. Although no one can prove that it was fake, everyone believed it to have been so. Cavill was promoting Man of Steel, and Kaley needed a boost. They both later stated that they never got more media attention than at that point in their careers.
Cuoco said,
“I had no one following me until I met Superman. I’ve been in this business for 20 years, and my whole life, I could go anywhere, do anything. There had not been one paparazzi photo of me until like seven months ago. The recognition has been crazy.”
The most-discussed fauxmance ever – Hiddleswift
On the rocky shores of Rhode Island, a beautiful non-staged romance had started. The first photos sailed around the world in seconds, and even their truest fans were certain it was too good to be true. Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston’s relationship was simply too much – too camera-ready, too available and open, and too emotional for such a short period. Sure, Hiddleston went on record, said that “of course [the relationship] was real.” However, if we believed that, it would mean ignoring every aspect of that relationship that seemed scripted.
The Hiddleswift just appeared out of nowhere just a day before Kim Kardashian accused Swift of lying about having approved lyrics to Kanye’s song “Famous.” This new relationship didn’t only distract us from the allegations, but it also drew attention from Swift’s breakup with Calvin Harris.
Many others seemed suspicious – Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron… Still, we have no proof that these were staged relationships, but we only wonder.
This is where the E!’s new show is tickling our curiosity. Will the show tackle all those love connections that seemed fake?
The show promises to give us a fun ride, and when we just consider the real-life material they have at their disposal, we can’t wait to see it on screen!
