The Best High School Movies of All Time
No matter how old you are, you will always enjoy watching high school movies – even if it is only one piece. Many of us enjoy spending time watching these movies for many reasons: we feel nostalgic remembering those days and memories, and we also remember how fast the time goes.
There are many high school movies, but horrors and comedies are the most popular ones. No matter which one you choose, these movies have remained popular through years. Here is our list of 6 most popular high school movies. Sit down and remember how fast those four years spent in the high school flew away.
Easy A (2010)
This is a highly popular movie that won nine awards and was nominated 19 times. It is a teen comedy about Olive (Emma Stone) who is bullied and ridiculed by many school friends. Olive uses the rumor mill for herself and helps many other students in a similar way inspired by the Nathaniel H.’s novel, The Scarlet Letter. She sews a red A letter to all her clothes. This movie talks about many problems of high school life, especially about bullying, social status, weighing, etc. Olive has her personal journey, too, and ends up in a relationship with her longtime high school crush.
Dead Poets Society (1989)
This is a drama which became classic, and it provides a strong insight into high school life. It is about a teacher, John Keating (Robin Williams), who inspires his students to fall in love with poetry by looking at it from different perspective – knowledge, and feelings. It is all but a typical story, and it gives a range of high school students that many of us can relate to. Naturally, all of them are in the process of self-discovery but are directed by their teacher. The story has a dark turn, but it remains the high school movie with a deeper meaning, teaching everyone to follow dreams and be inspired by other people.
Dazed and Confused (1993)
This movie reflects a high school life in an excellent way, although the most of it is happening outside the school. Some of the today’s famous names such as Ben Affleck and Matthew McConaughey started acting in this movie. This movie is about adventures of junior high and high school students on the last day of school. It gives a peek into their lives and adventures, choices and mistakes. Many characters are first time exposed to alcohol and marijuana; it further explores students’ risky behavior and tuff choices, with a lot of love and friendship along the way. Dazed and Confused shows us how fun and interesting high school can be, but at the same time how important it is for our growth and development.
Heathers (1988)
This dark comedy is about Veronica Sawyer, who is placed into the popular group of girls that everyone craves for. But after realizing how mean the girls are, she accidentally starts a mass killing march. Although the plot goes darker, the movie successfully shows a realistic spirit of high school life. The movie itself didn’t make big success at the time, but later it reached cult status. It certainly deserved the place on our list since it was a really original story.
Election (1999)
This interesting comedy shows what it means when a person takes school extremely seriously. Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon) decides that she wants to become a student president. She gives her best to become one without being afraid to even hurt anyone along the way. Tracy is too mature for her age and takes politics too seriously. She is a smart and real cynical teenager, perfect for the attack. This plot is about teacher against student, exposing the inner mechanisms of the high school social system. Tracy’s competitive spirit is only taking her to extremes. It also perfectly shows how an overeager nature can just go wrong.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)
Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) is a high school student and decides to take a day off from school. On his day of absence, he pretends to be sick and goes on an adventure with his girlfriend, Sloane (Mia Sara) and his best friend Cameron (Alan Ruck). His epic adventures show off the excitement that goes along with escaping from school for one single day. Until the end of the day, many circumstances went wrong, though, and whole day lead to an unwanted outcome. As a movie, it is one of the best and explores many high school issues and situations that students face.
