Beautiful Women Wearing Cartier

Cartier is possibly the best-known luxury jewelry manufacturer and retailer in the world. With that title comes a long history of adding sparkle to the most legendary women of the modern age. Even Marilyn Monroe sang about this conglomerate in “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend” in her iconic role as Lorelei Lee from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. What follows here is the list of the greatest women who donned the glittering diamonds of Cartier.

“I really think that American gentlemen are the best after all, because kissing your hand may make you feel very good, but a diamond and a sapphire bracelet lasts forever.” — Anita Loos

Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly lived out a dream that most girls do not even dare imagine could come true. As a young actress, she conquered the world with her role as Linda in Mogambo, which brought her a Golden Globe and a nomination for an Academy Award. Soon after, she actually won an Oscar for Best Actress at the age of 25. We ask for patience, the talk of diamonds is just around the corner. In 1955, she was at the Cannes Film Festival and was invited to go to a photo session with Prince Rainier III at the Palace of Monaco.

However, they did not hit it off immediately. After a lot of back and forth, the public got to see her gorgeous Cartier ring with rubies and diamonds with a massive 10.5- karat stone. But that was not it; a lot of people do not know this, but Cartier has actually been the official supplier to the Monaco Royals since 1920. With that in mind, it is no surprise that she also wore an incredible three-strand diamond Cartier necklace for her wedding. The combined weight of the diamonds in the necklace was staggering 58 karats.

Kate Middleton

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Elizabeth is already world famous. Coming from relatively modest roots, she also became a real life princess, well, Duchess at this point. However, we all know she is a princess for our intents and purposes.

Her Cartier wedding tiara was incredible! It had a total of 888 diamonds in it and came with a lot of history. It was originally purchased by King George VI for his wife and started on its way to the lovely head of Kate Middleton. Although she is not known for wearing tiaras that often,  she does love the Ballon Bleu De Cartier watch that her husband got her for their third anniversary.

Maria Felix

One of the biggest Mexican stars of all time, María de Los Ángeles Félix Güereña was famous for the passion and power she had on camera. Her life was as turbulent as the movies she starred in and her first husband kidnapping her son only for the son to be saved by her second husband. Maria loved Cartier and had a taste for custom jewelry.

The first piece she had commissioned Cartier to make was the world-famous serpent necklace that contained an impossible number of 2,473 diamonds. She was so impressed by their quality of work that she actually, one day, demanded a very peculiar replica to be made.

In a way that can only be described as dramatic, she entered the store in Paris with a tiny live crocodile in a bowl. She  demanded the jeweler to create a piece that resembles it while noting that it should be done as soon as possible before the crocodile grew. The result?A two piece necklace with the combined weight of 126.88 carats.

Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor was probably one of the first modern celebrities ever. Before her, movie stars were treated like regular, working people. However, her fame changed the world forever. She was a great actress and a humanitarian. Still, we are here to talk about the Diamond.

Elizabeth Taylor owned the famous Cartier diamond, which you probably never heard of because her fame influenced the name of the diamond. Today, it is called the Taylor-Burton diamond. It is the largest privately-owned diamond in the world with 69.42ct.

The diamond was originally cut to be set into a ring. However, Dame Taylor deemed the ring to be too heavy for her to carry around so she had it set in a necklace that was specifically designed for her.  She decided to sell the diamond after the divorce from Burton and used a part of the proceeds to help build a hospital in Botswana. Good job, Ms Taylor!
