The space was actually a nuclear fallout shelter! John and his team were amazed by it. They reasoned that the structure must have been constructed at the peak of the cold war between the Soviet Union and the United States, and so the Whitaker Pool company had taken it upon themselves to build not only pools but also deliver what the people wanted to soothe their paranoia – bomb shelters.
