5 Daily Struggles That Left-Handers Undergo
Let’s face it. A significant number of our population are left-handers. Gone are the days where encountering a left-hander was a rare occurrence. Over the past few years, the number of left-handers has risen exponentially. This recessive gene seems to emerge frequently. It may seem quite awkward to see that you’re the only left-hander in your class or your group, but you don’t really have a choice. It is not easy to train oneself to become right-handed.
With that said, the left-handers encounter daily struggles that not even the right handlers can understand. Let’s tackle these daily struggles encountered by left-handed people.
“I’m left-handed, and it’s not very easy to find reasonably priced high-quality left-handed guitars. But out of all the guitars in the whole world, the Fender Mustang is my favorite. I’ve only owned two of them.”— Kurt Cobain
They Struggle While Writing
When writing on paper or a book, left handlers face certain difficulties. Often, they leave a trail of ink and prints as they write. When they open a page in a binder, they have no choice but to bend their arm at a right angle just to write properly, which is extremely uncomfortable, to begin with.
Even when they rip a sheet of paper out and lay it flat on the desk, they’ll still end up with more graphite on the side of their hand than on the paper. Moreover, they need to shift to the right side when sitting in an armchair since most chairs are made for right-handers. Therefore, most left-handers prefer typing on a computer to writing with a pen.
Right-Clicking Vs. Left Clicking
Even though most left-handers prefer using the computer to writing using a pen, unfortunately, another completely different problem arises. While most universal mouses were designed for both left and right-handers, we cannot deny that specialized mouses (such as gaming mouses) are designed for right-handers.
And that’s not even the core problem; it is just the tip of the iceberg. When you are left-handed, a left-click is a right-click, and a right-click is a left-click, which can be a huge hassle. Although the younger generation can quickly adapt to it, imagine teaching your 60-year-old father who’s left handed? It could be a challenging tutorial session!
They Cut Backwards
Left-handers also encounter problems when it comes to cutting papers and objects. Since most scissors are designed for the right-handers’ natural grip, a left-hander may encounter some problems when using the same. For one, the blade will shift slightly, leading to many irregular cuts and tears.
Note to teachers: We recommend that you invest a little money for left handed scissors; it will save you a lot of time wasted on cleaning up messed and torn papers.
They Hate Eating in a Booth Because They Need Some More Space!
Eating with your right-handed friends can be a frustrating and awkward experience. Your elbows are most likely to collide when eating, and that can be very frustrating experience. It will also take you more time to finish your meal. You also require from your friends in order to eat properly.
They Can’t Just Pick Up a Normal Guitar to Play
Whenever they want to have a music session with friends, left-handers have to bring their own customized left-handed guitar to join the hype. For one, using a right-handed guitar when you are left-handed will not work as you will be forced to play the guitar upside down!
We Share Solace to Other Left Handers
Whenever a left-handed person sees another left-hander, they cannot help but smile and share their frustrations. They are superb at sympathizing with other lefties because they have experienced the same struggles first-hand. Furthermore, they feel somehow insulted when a right-handed person states the obvious. They do not need to be reminded of the difference as, hey! They are already dealing with it every day!
Right-handed individuals have no clue about what left-handers go through every single day! Therefore, if you’re a lefty, be proud!
